The largest vintage-tractor auction company—Mecum Auctions’ Gone Farmin’—returns to the Mississippi Valley Fair Center in Davenport, Iowa, April 5-7 for the 2018 Spring Classic. This event is set to offer more than 400 vintage tractors and 400 rare signs and farm relics consigned from across North America. There is something for everyone with items and tractors ranging from entry level to museum grade.
Nine collections are currently consigned to the auction, seven of which will be offered at no reserve, with tractors spanning from around North America. Among headlining collections, the Tom O’Connor Collection from Swartz Creek, Michigan, presents 31 John Deere tractors and implements restored to the highest quality. The featured consignment within this collection is a John Deere Model 42 Combine (Lot F101)—it is the only combine to ever be certified Expo Quality. The Don Kehn Collection from Fort Collins, Colorado, presents 35 tractors from a variety of makes and models. The Lemmons Collection from Longview, Washington, encompasses 30 John Deere tractors, and the Jack Wiebe Collection from Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Canada, consists of 10 tractors ready to work.
Leading the star consignments of the auction is a 1938 Minneapolis-Moline UDLX (Lot F20) and two Waterloo Boy tractors—a 1919 Waterloo Boy Model N (Lot F21) and a 1916 Waterloo Boy Model R (Lot F16).
Named in honor of those early 20th-century machines is another especially unique offering that will grace the Gone Farmin’ auction block: a 4-year-old Clydesdale gelding known as WaterLou. A massive, best-of-breed example, WaterLou was exclusively selected for the sale by owner and previous 25-year manager of the Budweiser Clydesdales, Jim Poole. The offering of WaterLou will mark the first of its kind for Gone Farmin’.
In addition to WaterLou and the tractors, more than 400 signs and farm relics will be offered on Friday, April 6, following the tractors at approximately 2 p.m.
A customer-appreciation reception will be held on Friday, April 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bettendorf, Iowa.
