HONDA ACCORD AND CIVIC TYPE R VOTED AS ‘2018 AUTOMOBILE ALL-STARS’

The editors at AUTOMOBILE magazine have selected the Honda Accord and Civic Type R as “2018 AUTOMOBILE All-Stars” – giving Honda the most models on the list of any brand. AUTOMOBILE editors lauded the 2018 Accord for its no-compromise package, including ample interior space, agile driving dynamics, engaging powertrain and brilliant engineering. The 2018 Civic Type R was AUTOMOBILE’s only unanimous selection, praised for its incredible performance value rivaling far more expensive and exotic sports cars, along with its everyday usability.

To be in contention for All-Star honors, vehicles must be all-new, heavily revised, or newly significant model variants on sale in the U.S. within 12 months of All-Stars testing.

“To receive two All-Star nods in one year speaks to how special we think Honda’s recent offerings have been,” says Mike Floyd, AUTOMOBILE Editor-in-Chief. “The new 10th-generation Accord is a meticulously engineered sedan with soul, especially in Sport trim, and the Civic Type R is arguably the greatest performance car for the money available today. From family haulers to hauling butt, Honda continues to blow us – and the competition – away.”

Completely redesigned from the ground-up, the all-new Accord features a lighter and more rigid body structure, an advanced new chassis design wrapped in a more sophisticated, sleek and athletic design with top class interior space and comfort. The drivetrain options include two all-new, high-torque VTEC® Turbo engines, the world’s first 10-speed automatic transmission for a front-drive car and a new generation of Honda’s two-motor hybrid technology. The Accord also includes a host of new safety, driver-assistive and connected-car technologies.

With a peak output of 306 horsepower (SAE net) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net) from its muscular 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injected VTEC Turbo® engine, the Civic Type R is the most powerful Honda ever sold in America. The 2018 Type R is available in one fully equipped trim with a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, limited slip differential, Adaptive Damper System and an ingenious dual-axis strut front suspension design that virtually eliminates torque steer.
