A new comparison chart developed by Toyota Parts Center depicts how the 2000 Toyota Tundra outperforms the 2019 Toyota Tundra in some surprising ways, especially when it comes to hauling and towing capability. Despite the 19-year difference between the two vehicles, the Tundra has not necessarily improved with time.
“The Toyota Tundra is iconic,” says Tom Blackman, Director at Toyota Parts Center. “You’d expect it to become more and more capable with time, but when you really look at it, you see that the 2000 Tundra can haul more, tow more, and it weighs less than the 2019.”
Here are some of the highlights from the 2000 vs 2019 comparison chart:
- Despite being able to tow and carry less, the 2019 Tundra does have more power (310 horsepower vs 245 horsepower).
- Fuel economy has not improved with time. Its large size may have something to do with that.
- When you adjust for inflation, the Tundra is actually cheaper today than it was 19 years ago.
“The 2019 Tundra is clearly a bigger truck than it was two decades ago,” says Blackman. “Its beefy appearance is part of its appeal as is its ability to work. At Toyota Parts Center, we’re eager to see if the next model will provide for more towing and hauling capability, as its fans no doubt hope for.”
