Coinciding with the brand’s 70th anniversary and its well-known Rennsport enthusiast weekend on the west coast, Porsche will maintain its prominence in the Southeast as the featured marque for the 2018 Atlanta Concours d’Elegance, September 29-30th, at Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA. More than 15 car brands will be on site and luxury brands including Porsche, Lexus, Mercedes, Karma and Bentley will offer ride and drive experiences each day.
“As the Atlanta Concours continues its growth cycle in the southeast region, it’s been a pleasure for Porsche to help champion its beginnings and future success,” said Peter Sanford, Area South Marketing Manager for Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “This will be Porsche’s third year of involvement with the concours – and this is our most meaningful contribution yet!” The brand will host a display large enough to showcase at least a half dozen vehicles — and will additionally be providing its own test drive experience for consumers and attendees throughout the weekend, with a mix of current models ranging from 911s to 718s and the Macan GTS sport luxury sport utility vehicle. Sanford noted that as Atlanta is home to Porsche’s corporate headquarters, the regional concours too has become a home for the brand.

TIES TO McPHERSON COLLEGE – AUTOMOTIVE RESTORATION PROGRAM
According to Bill Wallet, CEO of the Atlanta Concours, this year’s show will also host the future stewards of preservation and restoration, when several students from the McPherson College, Automotive Restoration Program, act as apprentice judges for the weekend. The Atlanta Concours joins the prestigious Pebble Beach and Amelia Island Concours’ as one of only three concours programs in the nation to be chosen by the College for its most outstanding students to partake.
The award-winning school, a liberal arts college in Kansas, is highly regarded as the only four-year institute to offer a bachelors’ degree in automotive restoration and boasts of alumni securing global roles ranging from collector car and museum car management, to skilled craftspeople that work within and own custom restoration businesses. Wallet noted that in addition to the students, a McPherson department head, two professors and several alumni will take part in the weekend, with two McPherson grads showing significant offerings during the Atlanta Concours:
- Michael Rhodes, who oversees the more than 600 rare motorized gems of the Evergreen Historic Automobile collection in Lebanon, MO will be showcasing a half dozen unique vehicles including the recently restored 1933 Isotta-Fraschini Tipo 8A, driven by James Dean in the 1956 movie ‘Giant’ and often considered the world’s finest luxury car. Recently shown in Pebble Beach, after a 2-year complete frame off restoration
- Randy Elber, 2007 Magna Cum Laude graduate of McPherson, specializes in the preservation and best practices of the arts learned at McPherson, and over the years being a trusted colleague within respected facilities such as Paul Russell and Company. Elber will be showing a preserved 1958 Mercedes Benz 300 SL, from Mt. Kisco, NY-based R&R Preservation, Restoration, and Service – a fine automobile facility he owns with collector Robert Torre. Elber will also be a panelist in Saturday’s panel discussion hosted by Grundy, and a class judge within the concours.
