o familiarize himself with the city in anticipation of the upcoming FIA Formula E Championship race in July, Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Mitch Evans made his inaugural trip to New York City this week. To preview the race venue and experience driving in New York City, Evans piloted a custom Jaguar F-TYPE wrapped in Panasonic Jaguar Racing livery.
The FIA Formula E Championship, the world’s first fully-electric racing series, will make its only U.S. stop this season on July 15-16, 2017 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The city’s first major race will take place along a 1.21 mile course around Pier 11 and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal with iconic New York City backdrops that include lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
“As a native New Zealander I have never visited, let alone driven in, New York City before, so the announcement that Formula E would race here was particularly exciting for me,” said Mitch Evans, Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver. “I am thrilled to be part of the Jaguar brand’s electric future and return to motorsport. I am incredibly honored to race in one of the most iconic cities in the world.”
For the race in July, Evans will be joined in New York by fellow Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Adam Carroll and team director James Barclay. The Jaguar brand’s return to top-level racing will push the boundaries of electric technology in a performance environment and underscores the importance of electric vehicles and alternative powertrains in the future product portfolio for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. The partnership with Panasonic to create the Jaguar Racing Formula E team will help to develop a future that promises to further the use of electric technology in a performance environment.
