Scott Speed dominated the weekend in Indianapolis, earning a much-needed win at Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross’ home event at Lucas Oil Raceway ahead of his teammate Tanner Foust. The result marks another 1-2 finish for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team which has scored four such results in 2017.
Speed was on a mission as soon as the weekend began, setting the fastest time in qualifying and winning each of his preliminary races on his way to a maximum points haul for the weekend.
“What a great way to celebrate our team’s home race, with a commanding 1-2 finish,” said Speed after the race. “We knew we needed to get the most out of this weekend to help our championship hopes, and that’s just what we did. I couldn’t be prouder of the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross crew, and I’m looking forward to keeping this momentum rolling.”
Foust’s Indianapolis event was not as simple as his teammate’s, unable to enjoy a clean Heat race for much of the weekend. The driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC still proved to be more than a match for the rest of the field, working his way forward in each event on his way to a second-place finish.
“We had a tough weekend on this side of the garage, but fought through for a good batch of points,” said Foust. “We didn’t get quite the result we wanted, but I know that we can get back on the right track for the rest of the season and I’m proud of all the Volkswagen Andretti guys who put on a great show in front of their friends and family.”
Speed’s complete sweep of the weekend allowed the driver of the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC to retake second position in the provisional points standings behind his teammate. Volkswagen continues to grow its lead in the manufacturer’s championship with yet another 2017 victory.
Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross will return to action next month for its second, annual visit to Atlantic City on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13. Broadcasts of the doubleheader will air LIVE on NBC each day: 5:00PM (ET) on August 12 and 4:30PM (ET) on August 13.
