Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector-car auction company, is slated to return to Houston’s NRG Center April 5-7 for Mecum Houston 2018 with an estimated 1,000 American muscle cars, Corvettes, classics, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more to cross the auction block.
Among the most notable consignments are a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (Lot S112) with the original A833 4-speed transmission that is one of just 308 produced, a 2005 Ford GT (Lot S106) with just 2.6 miles, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback(Lot S108) featuring a matching-numbers 428 cubic-inch engine, and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 (Lot S136.1), Kar Kraft No. 1390, that is one of only 279 equipped with the rare 820-S NASCAR solid-lifter engine.
The auction will also highlight two private collection offerings. Crossing the block on Friday, April 6, An Investment-Grade Viper Collection will offer bidders a chance at nine of Dodge’s V-10-equipped supercar inspired by Shelby’s Cobra, ranging from a first-year 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10 Roadster (Lot F176) with just 5,780 original miles to a 2005 Dodge Viper SRT-10 VCA Edition (Lot F180) that is No. 41 of just 50 produced that year. The other private assemblage headlining Mecum Houston 2018 is The Rick Smith Collection to be offered at no reserve as the first group of vehicles to cross the auction block on Saturday, April 7. The 60-vehicle collection from the late Rick Smith includes an array of customized American muscle cars, Street Rods, trucks and six Boss Hoss motorcycles. Also included is a 1953 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible(Lot S52) with a gunmetal finish and fuel-injected 572/625 HP V-8 engine; a custom 1967 Ford Mustang Pro Street (Lot S44) build with a blown 541 cubic-inch V-8 with Shelby GT500 styling; a turquoise 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible (Lot S55) with matching turquoise and silver interior; and a 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible equipped with the venerable 426 cubic-inch Hemi engine (Lot S43).
Mecum Houston 2018 is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Bidder registration is available in advance online for $100, $200 after April 4, and includes admission for two for all auction days. General admission tickets are available in advance online for $20 per person, per day, and for $30 online and at the gate after April 4; children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. Doors open daily at 8 a.m., with the vehicle auction beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, and at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7. Mecum Houston 2018 will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network for a total of 21 hours including 15 hours of live coverage. A live auctioneer stream of the entire auction will also be presented at Mecum.com.
