A new infographic illustrates five enviable VW models not available in the United States. The Volkswagen parts experts at VWPartsVortex.com put together this list of five vehicles they wish were available stateside. As the graphic reveals, these are the Volkswagen vans, trucks and performance cars the team wishes would be for sale on American dealer lots.
“The first vehicle on the graphic is named after a West Coast state,” says Rocco DeMas, director at VWPartsVortex.com. “VW camper vans were always great for a weekend getaway at the lake or on a beach, but no one in California or any other state has access to this updated camper van. I know RVs are the rage now, but the bus still has a following. The California is a daily driver that can be an overnight sleeping vehicle. Americans like multi-use, hybrid-like vehicles. I think it would have appeal over here.”
Here is some other interesting facts about VWs featured on the infographic:
- Americans can enjoy the Golf Alltrack or the Golf Sportwagen, and both vehicles have some great attributes. But they’re no Golf R Sportwagen, which gets 296hp.
- The Scirocco left the US in the 80s. It was an impressive performer for a FWD hatchback, but its time in America ended quickly. The zippy sport-compact coupe is continually updated for the European market. It’s rumored Volkswagen won’t bring it back to America because it would compete with GTI sales.
- VW’s body-on-frame, 4WD Amarok is available on four continents, but North America isn’t one of them. A 2018 Australian commercial shows the powerful, little truck passing semis. The Australian advertising standards board demanded the ad be pulled for encouraging reckless driving.
“Americans love trucks,” DeMas says. “I know the current models don’t meet our regulations, but I think this is the one vehicle Volkswagen should adapt to bring it stateside. I hope those German engineers find a way to make that strong, off-roading truck work in this country. I think we’d see them everywhere.”
