A new graphic uses the truck bed measurements and payload capacities of the new Chevy Silverado 1500 to measure how many baseballs would actually fit in the truck bed and how much the Silverado could haul to the baseball field. The answer? More than it should.
“We’d be lying if we said customers have asked us how many baseballs could fit into a Silverado before,” says Matt Mylan, Director at GMPartsCenter.net. “But people do ask about truck bed volume and max payload frequently. This data is necessary when you’re looking to buy certain truck parts and accessories.”
For fun, the team at GMPartsCenter.net created this infographic using a few assumptions. Based on research, the weight of a baseball varies slightly. So, the assumption is that a single baseball weighs 5 oz. and takes up 12.32 cubic inches of space. To be safe, that number was rounded up to 12.5 cubic inches to account for some empty space between each ball.
From there, the team took payload into consideration. Based on the above numbers, 12,317 baseballs will fit in the back of a 2019 Silverado regular cab/long bed. When you multiply that number by 5 oz, you end up with more weight than the truck should haul.
“If you want to exceed max payload that’s your prerogative, but we don’t ever recommend it, even if it is the start of baseball season,” Mylan says.
