The largest vintage-tractor auction company—Mecum Auctions’ Gone Farmin’—returns to the Mississippi Valley Fair Center in Davenport, Iowa, Nov. 8-10 for the 2018 Iowa Premier. With more than 500 vintage tractors and 800 signs and farm relics consigned from across North America, the vast and diverse auction lineup will appeal to a wide array of collectors.
The auction stars will be out and shining in Davenport, anchored by powerhouses such as a 2008 John Deere 8530 (Lot S28) and a 1985 IHC 7488 (Lot S47), as well as a steel-wheeled delight—the 1902 Case 9-Horse Traction Engine (Lot F55). Additionally, 16 private collections comprising a variety of makes and models will also headline the auction.
Some true horsepower will once again cross the auction block at this year’s event in the form of a 3-year-old Clydesdale gelding named “Gator” (Lot S1). This horse was selected exclusively for the sale by its owner, Jim Poole, who was previously the 25-year manager of the Budweiser Clydesdales.
More than 800 signs and farm relics will also be offered throughout two days—on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8, and immediately following the tractors on Friday, Nov. 9. The most notable sign to be offered at the Iowa Premier is likely the John Deere smalt sign (Lot M11), the earliest John Deere sign known to be offered at auction. This true museum-quality piece—which boasts amazing color and graphics for a sign more than 100 years old—includes the original sign maker’s mark on the back. Additionally, an impressive American agricultural advertising assemblage will also be offered, including relics such as porcelain signs, neon signs, gas pumps, wagons, pedal tractors/cars, clocks and more.
A customer-appreciation reception will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bettendorf, Iowa.
The auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. To register as a bidder for the Gone Farmin’ Iowa Premier vintage-tractor auction, visit Mecum.com. Admission to the auction will be $10 per person, per day. Children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. The Iowa Premier will be broadcast on Facebook Live on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 8-9, featuring host Max Armstrong and announcers Max Wilson and Carl Downs, along with field reporter Amanda Trudell.
