The new Ford F-150 with a 3.0L Power Stroke engine recently hit dealerships, and the team at BlueSpringsFordParts.com is celebrating with a new infographic. Excited about the F-150’s first-ever diesel engine, the folks at BlueSpringsFordParts.com decided to see how the Ford F-150 Diesel Super Crew 4×4 stacks up to the 2018 Nissan Titan XD Diesel Crew Cab 4×4. The comparison graphic offers insights for those who tow camping and horse trailers, haul recreational gear or furniture, and those who are looking to take road trips in their new truck.
“Ford and diesel fans now have another half-ton truck option,” says Rob Wagner, parts director at Blue Springs Ford Parts. “The new 3.0-liter Power Stroke in the F-150 has amazing fuel efficiency, and we decided to see how this truck stacks up overall to a Titan XD with a Cummins.”
Highlights from the graphic:
- Since the Nissan Titan XD is classified as a heavy duty truck, the EPA doesn’t report mpgs. The 18 highway mpg came from a Car & Driver report. The Ford F-150 Crew 4×4 25 highway mpg is an EPA-estimated rating.
- The Ford’s fuel tank holds 23 gallons and can travel up to 575 miles on a full tank. The Nissan Titan XD’s tank capacity is 26 gallons, but it travels about 100 miles less on a tank of fuel.
- The Cummins turbo diesel delivers 320hp, and 555 pound-feet of torque at 1600 rpm. The smaller Power Stroke offers 250hp, and 440 pound-feet of torque at 1750 rpm.
- The 10-speed SelectShift® transmission has a tight gear ratio that helps keep the smaller, lighter Power Stroke turbo diesel running closer to peak power while shifting. The 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission in the Titan has wider ratios but is designed for high engine output.
- The payloads are almost identical. The F-150 hauls just 20 more pounds than the Titan’s 2000-pound maximum payload.
- The Nissan Titan XD tow rating is 630 pounds more than the Ford. Since most people don’t tow right at the maximum allowed weight, the practical difference between what the two diesels can tow is minimal.
“The F-150 diesel does have a slightly higher MSRP, but it’s negligible when you consider the fuel efficiency of this diesel,” Wagner says. “This is a great Power Stroke option for those who don’t need a fleet vehicle for work. This truck is perfect for summer adventures.”
