ATLANTA CONCOURS INVITES MOTORCYCLES OF PROVENANCE AS BIG DRAW FOR 2ND ANNUAL EVENT

While most Concours events are a haven for collector car owners and enthusiasts, the Atlanta Concours will be appealing to an even broader audience when it creates a true classic motorcycle Concours experience, including two judging fields of pre- and post-war motorcycles,’ as well as non-traditional activities and exhibitions for attendees to enjoy during the September 30- October 1st second annual Concours at Chateau Elan. Curated by highly regarded classic motorcycle collector and enthusiast John Landstrom, owner of Blue Moon Cycle in Norcross, GA — — the newest addition to the Atlanta event is expected to present a field of approximately two dozen of the finest vintage motorcycles.

The motorcycle advisory team guiding the Atlanta Concours includes the expertise of collectors and specialists with more than a century of proficiency – and their involvement is key to the selection, recruitment and judging process.

According to Landstrom there is strong crossover interest between automotive and motorcycle collectors, “the evolution of motorcycle design runs parallel to car design — both car collectors and motoring enthusiasts appreciate the art and engineering of classic motorcycles.” And thanks to beautiful roads and scenery, as well as a nearly year-round riding season, southeast enthusiasts are afforded a tremendous riding experience.  “There’s a full and active community of riders and riding groups – it only makes sense to tap into this market, which includes a large draw from Georgia, Northern and Southern Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama.  The vintage and antique world they play in only continues to grow.”

A lifelong collector, dealer, restorer and student of all things motorcycle, Landstrom has bought and sold 1000’s of classic and antique motorcycles and is frequently sought out for consultations and appraisals – most notably as motorcycle appraiser for Discovery Channel’s ‘Auction Kings,’ and as a featured expert on several “American Pickers” episodes, and is a regular author and contributor to classic motorcycle and motorcycle lifestyle publications.

Landstrom’s personal collection — an eclectic mix of European, American and Japanese motorcycles — features numerous unusual and uniquely engineered motorcycles, several of which have earned numerous first- and second-place awards within various highly recognized Concours programs, including Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and Hilton Head.   Motorcycles from Landstrom’s collection will be on exhibition at this year’s Atlanta Concours event.

Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of the Atlanta Concours Bill Wallet believes that the addition of the motorcycles will bring a real bonus to the more than 150 collectible entrant cars that will be on display throughout the weekend.  “We are committed to making the Atlanta Concours a top rate experience for ALL enthusiasts, and that includes motorcycle entrants and enthusiasts alike,” said Wallet.

Beyond the traditional Concours entrant field will be a special area specifically showcasing an entire range of motorcycle experiences including:

  • Private Motorcycle Collection Exhibits
  • Motorcycle Cannonball Exposition
  • Georgia Moto-History Multi-Media Exhibit
  • Motorcycle Memorabilia, Art & Apparel
  • Restoration and Preservation Workshops
  • Side Car Experiences
  • Electric Motorcycles

Landstrom noted that in addition to enthusiasts and collectors, the Atlanta Concours expects participants from classic & vintage focused rider groups, including regional chapters of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.  Beyond his advisory role for the Concours, Landstrom is also slated as lead judge in the motorcycle categories and will be helping to set the judging tone and standards for the relevant areas of the Concours.
